Springburn Cross.
Jun 9 2008, 6:32 PM EDT
At the intersection of Springburn Rd., Cowlairs Rd. and Vulcan St., which was called Springburn Cross, on the building of the Co-op. there was a clock and beside that clock , carved into the stonework, was the inscription "Springburn Cross".
In photographs of modern Springburn, showing the same location, the inscription seems to have been removed.
Does anyone know when and why it was removed?

Hi Dodilamb, the old coop building were refurbished and sheltered housing put in the ground floor level where the shops were, because of this the building had to be reinforced and refaced so I suspect the old stone was removed at that time regards JIM

Hi Lesley. no I dont teach at the college I attend a leisure glass for stained glass, when I retired I tok a 3 year Higher National Diploma in stained glass techniques and have just kept going to classes as a hobbie. The college is North Glasgow College and at present is in the old NB LOco Officce Block in Flemington st, the new college is being built just across the road from it. I think the move is due to take place in the autumn. I took a couple of quick Photos yesterday which I will put on the Photo Gallery wont guarantee the quality but it might give people a wee idea of what it will look like Regards JIM

Hi Dodi Had a good look at the cross today, the new stone work goes right up underneath the windows, all the old window ledges are gone on the corner no signs of the old marker stone or clock just another landmark gone. JIM

I actually went into the NGC site.. just for fun yesterday, I wanted to look at their curriculum or see if they had any courses posted...it was kind of a wishful thinking thing as my little 'ole hubby is an English & Lit prof.... and while, most of his career has been in his own business he has taught at a number of universities and colleges state side... like I said...wishful thinking... and an exploration just for fun.... but, there has been so much talk from everyone about the schools we all went to, the teachers and how far so many have gone in life.... my husband say it all the time.... "everyone, I have ever met from Scotland.... are all wiser, smarter and far better educated than most people here" of course he speaks of people who are products of our era...
born in the 40's in school in the 50's and 60's... maybe things have changed.
Now, I love stained glass...as an Interior designer... with hundreds of clients in my own part of the country.., I have often used locals here.. lovely.... you should send some samples of your work... photos I mean....
Hugs.... and I commend your interest in doing something creative and worthwhile.

Hi Leslie, have a look on my profile page I have a wee gallery there of some painting and some glass work ,would value your opinion. Glass work is very popular in the states and they have exhibition all the time in every part of the states. I was over at an expo in Las Vegas a couple of years ago, mind you eveyone was an expert and made a lot of money. Though I did meet agreat many really talented people one lady was down from alaska and we had acouple of hours chatting to her about glass, she took advantage of the expos to stock up for the year with all the latest glass quite facinating had her own website and sold her goods all over. Hope you like the gallery regards JIM
