Apr 12 2008, 5:13 PM EDT Hi All.... Just back from my trek down south ...... got lots of catching up to do I see.... everyone blethering ten to the dozen !!!....... dont know about other regions in Scotland , but over here in the lovely kingdom , the children are taught Scottish Country Dancing and they have a huge school festival every year.... they also have a Rabbie burns poetry competition and the kids get taught Rabbie poems........ Springboy ... being abe to sing is a real gift.... none of my family can sing for peanuts , but we all do ...at the top of our voices , that`s why we are all mostly Baptists.... noisy praise so that we can belt it out and it dosent make any difference whether we are heard or not .......... I have to agree with you re. the word gay ... my grandsons all call each other gay or gayboy ????... what`s that all about ???...... anyhoooo ... Off to some other Threads to catch up .... catch you all later.......Tra-la-la-la-la .. hugs ......Fi ...xxxx Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 13 2008, 4:59 PM EDT Hi again springboy, just to say my sister was also in Agnes Hoeys choir. (cooperative choir it was called) they were a very disciplined choir and very well turned out as you say. Also, we as a family all enjoyed singing. My father was a Tenor and my brother Bass. I sing alto, and just love to sing, infact FionaM and i have given many a duet on this very site!.... cant really dance , only Scottish country dances at Weddings. Thanks to Colston Jnr.Secondary school where I learned all the Scottish country dances i know. At least i learned something from my 3 years there. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Singing
Apr 15 2008, 4:16 PM EDT Well i must admit i have never sang in a pub, but i did at school, both in Elmvale and Colston. When at Elmvale we went to the St. Andrews Halls (doesnt half date me!!) I remember the teacher who conducted the choir was a Miss Horne, dont remember what we sang , but at Colston we sang "all in the April evening"....we came in 1st.. our choir leader was Mr Lennox, im sure the Colston folks will remember him....he was lovely..ahah......he was a Tenor and often sang on the wireless, i remember tuning in with my mum and i absolutely adored him .He sang beautiful Scotiish Songs. He also married one of the Maths teachers at Colston School i thought , that was a bit mean as id like to have had a chance! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I remember learning two songs .... "Oh my beloved Father "...and the one that goes " I stood besdie a brooklet , that sparkled on it`s way , and there , beneath the wavelets I saw a fish at play "........
