Stobhill Hospital

Thanks for the photo Harry, my mum worked there too , but in the kitchens. She was probably there from around the mid 60's till possibly the late 70's. Jeanie Culbard was her name. My dad always used to say 'he allowed her to go out to work'...changed days indeed. Bunty 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

My mother also worked in Stobhill Hospital, she worked as an auxiliary in the wards for the mentally ill. Can't remember when offhand, perhaps mid to late 70s. Do you find this valuable?

Harry your mum must be a good age and a great source of information. wish I'd asked my parents more. My dad came from the Gorbals and my mum from Bishopbriggs but ended up in Springburn. My dad was the foreman plumber for McNeils in Northcroft Road.

My gran was an auxiliary at the outpatients for all her working years and retired in the '70's. Gosh I can still see her in her grey uniform. My aunt ( her sister) was a nurse at the dermalology ward which was a wee drive down towards the gate going towards Springburn. Do you find this valuable?

Amazing!!!This site gets more interesting by the day.Do you mean Peter Pan of the famous camel hair kiddies coats with the velvet trimmed collars?
The Company name was L Pieters & Co and the factory was off Alexandra Parade. If so read on.
My Dad was the Chief Clerk in their office in the '40/s up until about 1956.when he left through illness and never went back.I don't know what happened to the firm after that but we still have a photo of my second youngest brother dressed in one of them coats.Maybe your sister helped to make it???From Stobhill to Ally Parade.............fantastic!!!

I was born there as most of us were, but I was also taken there with scarlet fever when I was 3yrs. old. I remember being in quarantine and the sister or nurse gave me into trouble for lying with my knees up as it disturbed the covers in the cot!!
I also remember my Uncle Walter coming to take me home in his car, what a treat!

I was born there as most of you were. I remember being in Stobhill when I got Scarlet Fever, I was only 3yrs. old at the time. I remember getting into trouble for lying with my knees up in the cot as it took all the covers out from under the mattress. Another thing was that my Mother & Father were not allowed in to see me they had to wave to me through the window. I also remember my lovely uncle Walter coming to take me home in his car, what a treat!! Do you find this valuable?

That wee story was good enough to repeat Moira ! seriously though you had me shedding a tear, thinking of you getting into trouble by a nurse , the wee soul. Yes and Scarlet Fever was a common illness then. my brother had it , my mother always told me he got it going into puddles, but i think that was just to stop me getting my feet wet doing that ver y thing. Does anybody know how you got Scarlett Fever ? Hope I havent been lied to all these years !!!!! Do you find this valuable?

Main cause of Scarlett fever was dirty or polluted water. And if you remember a lot of our puddles in the back courts were pretty mucky...so like me Jean you would have been told not to play in puddles.

Hi Bunty I must have been a puddle paddler for I had scarlet fever I think I mention it in my wee story, I still remember the fumigation of the house and the disinfected curtain over the room door , dont know why I wasn't in hospital though and got no one left to ask. Maybe the beds were full LOL jim
