RE: Anyone remember this pub?
Jan 6 2008, 9:46 AM EST Hi to everyone. I don't remember the pub at 113 but I remember most of the list. My da drank in Quinns and Bells. Had a few drinks in Bells myself once I got older. I also remember the dentist - Christies. When you lay back on the chair all you could see out the window was the big cross from St. Aloysius or was that just my fear that made me focus on it!!! Dougans
Jan 6 2008, 10:04 AM EST Because it's an odd number the pub would be on the same side of Springburn Road as the Kinema (or The Coffin as we called it ) May be opposite the Caley works or thereabouts. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Anyone remember this pub?
Jan 6 2008, 10:06 AM EST My dad lived at 258 Springburn Road which I believe faced the houses which are still there on "the High Road". Those are numbered 237 Springburn Road so I'd say 113 Springburn Road was probably near the Cawder in front of the flats at Sighthill. Hope this helps. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 13 2008, 6:27 AM EST The photo of the Boundry Bar is so bitter sweet. My Grandparents lived in 802 Springburn Rd, opposite the pub. Their close was near the zebra crossing where there was a sweetie shop. Do you find this valuable? |

Jan 23 2008, 10:51 PM EST Steve,If you went by the street numbers and that view from the High Rd, I think that tenement block was right ater the turn of Springburn rd,coming from Petershill rd.If I remember right, that was a big long block of tenements,so that st you see may just be the next street after Petershill rd,even though its quite a distance. But your dead right about that picture,it could only be taken from the high road, but before the Kinema on your left.(did you know that the Kinema was named the ''Canadian Picture House''when it was first built in 1912,and keep in mind the Kinema's number was 319 so that block wi' ''Dougans'' was back a bit.I also noticed on the Site, that one of the members sayed she lived in the 100 Block of Springburn Rd,may'be she has re-call. RE: Boundry Bar
Jan 24 2008, 1:30 AM EST Your right about the sweetie' shop Jimmy(buttermilk dainty1d and a Mc Gowens bar o' toffee 3d)before the Pictures started, and your right about the Church,I'm sure it was St Andrew's Episcopal Church,I think they were both after Mollinsburn St,but Steve said that Pub was 100 and something, that makes it back down the road a bit. What he has to figure out is the number system, say from Fountainwell Rd on up.For instance ,the Kinema was 319,Curleys was 333,Hoeys was around 337,all odd numbers.Do you remember ,along a bit from the church, there was a billiard hall, but ye' went downstairs tae' get tae' it,it was a basement,or a Dunnie as we used tae' cry' it. I remember we used tae' throw them' wee glass ''stink bombs'' doon the stairs, then run like hell when we saw ah' the punters runnin' oot'. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Boundry Bar
Jan 24 2008, 6:55 AM EST You were talking about Bauldy Baynes? that was at the corner of Springburn Road and Palermo Street. Before it was Bauldy's it was named the Snug Bar.That was the local Rangers Supporters pub, also the members of the local accordion band, "The William Dawson" used to hang out there too Dougans Pub, l believe was across from the Caley, along from the Cawder, right in front of what was known as "Huntington Square" 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
