Jan 4 2008, 6:42 PM EST yeah not far....I think she lived in the same street as my aunt Palermo Street??? I think one of her books was called Shoes were for Sunday...its more about her rather than Springburn..i did read it a while back and it is still around..but it added little to my knowlegde of Springburn.. my aunt always likes to tell the story of my old man and my uncle staggering up the tenament stairs trying to delivery a heavy wardrobe to my aunt....only to discover when they reached the top..they were in the wrong close...history dosent trll us.... but knowing my dai suspect they opened the top landing window and fired it out! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. You must Remember This,The story of Springburn's Cinemas----Researched and written by Andrew Stuart. The book is put out by the Springburn Museum Trust. This is one of her quotes ''There was our close and the next one,and then came the magnificent Princes Cinema, complete with commissionaire in uniform. My mother and father had a weekly date there. In these days, there was in addition to the Pathe News Gazette an on-going serial, each episode ended in a 'cliff-hanger' to lure you back next week,a drama of some sort, and a comedy.'' Marion Smith(nee Russell) (b. 1906)----Well there ye' go hen,ye' can put your kleenex away noo'. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: books about springburn
Feb 6 2008, 4:58 PM EST I used to live at 248 Gourlay St, John Thomas lived on the top floor. He was a real gentleman and always exchanged a pleasant word when we passed. The first we knew about his death was when the police arrived, he was a great loss to Springburn. His books are still in the public library, I was under the impression his photos had gone to the Peoples Palace, I have noted that elsewhere on this site is information that may not have happened.
