"Haw' Joan,ma' English wife is starting to get worried about me again! I'm sitting here crackin' up at that "BULLDOG CHEWING ON A WASP"we've had Boxer dogs all our lives,so I can just imagine that picture, Oh' here she comes again,I think she's got a Straight Jacket!!!! Naw,thank Christ, she's jist' putting away wan' o' ma' starched shirts!"
Well you know the type, "face like a meltit welly", "face like a hauf-chewed gas-meter" as well as the more common "face like a well-skeplt erse" hahaha. Plenty of 'descriptive' phrases like that going aboot! Must admit am having a right laugh with this, hardly anybody has good patter these days! My (Scottish) husband wasn't brought up in Glasgow, but when we first started going out and I asked him for 'a hurl in his motor' he was taken quite taken aback and passed me a sick bag hahaha!

jean .think i've replied to this somewhere else before but the king they're on about was a music teacher who was a good teacher and no molester of any kind except maybe the keys on the piano.his fellow teacher in music was miss syme who was the most horrific woman along with my primary one teacher at elmvale mrs pitt to ever teach at all .both hated children with a passion .in the music class mr king would play the death march on the piano if someone interrupted his class but he could also crack the odd one liner as well and i think he became ahead teacher before the school closed .he can be seen in the teachers photo of colston

I believe I knew Annie Asprin as a Maths teacher whos real name was Anne McMasters, her classroom was in A Block I recall. she got the nickname of annie asprin because she did medical room duty during school interval & tended to tell you to lie down after she gave ye an asprin tae make ye better.Annie Asprin was the teacher that was on medical room duty alongside the nurse & sent for an ambulance to take my brother to hospital with appendicitis, that had to be one of the rare times she didn't offer an asprin.cheers JmTaylor & jmw212 Always greaT WHEN WE CAN EACH FILL IN THE LINES SURE IT IS,jmtaylor I also recal that science teacher he was next class to my registration class lead by a Mr Clarke a wee english fella with mustache & the preverbial cord jacket with patches on the elbow LOL.[he was once science dpt head teacher,he tended to be very viscious towards pupils I recall he also had a slight speech impediment too. Mr Crawford was a fabulous teacher he was also my clssical studies teacher as well he was a miniture Billy Connolly figure to me & he always raised his monobrow when he was making a point of interest or when he was warning you that you better stop talking LOL I can see that science teacher as I type as he was my brothers registration teacher & his class was next door to my regie teacher Mr Clarke who was also a science teacher from the north of England.I think you & I were at Colston at the same time also JMC 41 was there when I was,we actualy went to both Elmvale & Colston together always in the same circle of pals but never got together as pals untill we bumped into each other on this site ,I met him & his lovely wife & kids when I was home a few months ago his home faces onto where the old C Block classrooms were. "Yeah thats him.. he was still there in 1972 when i started Colston... it took him ages to get up he would get to the board and spend forever neatly writing one word ..when he finished the bell rang... someone in my class nicked his hat from his desk and put it on..he didnt even notice..but he was well gone by this period..Auld Shan the cave man....my sister had him and she's ten years older than me...god know how he lasted so long..mind you wee cagney (Mr Fraser English) was also still around early70s..so there were a few dinosaurs"
Steve I thought auld shand was actualy Mr Cruickshank an English teacher who always had that white build up of spit at the corners of his mouth & was so oily & greasy with an auld potholed face he made us feel ill at times everyone thought he was an auld waRHORSE OF A TEACHER ALWAYS TOOK AGES TO TELL WHATEVER THE STORY WAS & ALWAYS WORE A GREEN TWEEDY TYP SUIT & BROWN CHECKED SHIRT WASN'T HE AULD SHAND OR IS IT SHAN? sorry there about the caps an accident from my swollen arthritic fingers pal sorry aboot that cheers the noo.Keep these stories coming ahm loving them all.

Linda, is it Mr Crawford who was the Classical Studies teacher? Am havin a hellava time remembering names. With the monobrow? Great teacher, the worst he ever done was send me and my pal to stand outside the classroom for laughing during class one day. I remember learning about the Labirynth of Knossos and the minotaur to this day. So his teaching must have stuck. Do you find this valuable?

I totaly agree that Mr King was indeed a music teacher & a brilliant one at that he actualy took over annie asprin aka anne McMasters role as assistand head teacher.I even remember the day he was pllaying the death march[something he did to let us pupils know he was about to crack up with someone ie chatting etc]He played the deathmarch on the piano & I thought awe aye he is gonnae go aff his heid at my classmate Lynda Biggham who was talking to me but awe naw it was me he was mad aT HE STOOD UP LIFTED HIS PIANO STOOL & FIRED AT ME[i HOPED HE WAS AIMING TO MISS LIKE HE DID] i GOT SO SCARED & SAID "WHAT DID i DO SHE WAS THE ONE CHATTING" he said "yes I know she was but you were the one encouraging her to continue to chat by your simple listening to her causing both of you to be in disobedience ,still to this day I can laugh at the horrofying feelings I felt then he made some daft joke told me to stop listening & ordered some boy to collect his stool & continued on with the lesson LOL mad eh no teacher would get away with such violence today would they mind you likewise to Jmc41 I cannot believe that our Mr King was the molester in question unless there were two Mr Kings????................

John I also had the dreadful Mrs Pitt in grade one so likely we were there in her class together ,she actualy wounded me by slapping me on the face wilst I was rubbing my cheeck with a pencil & the pencil lead included went into my eye & underneath it was all scratched & bleeding. That woman was the epitome of many a childs dreaded nightmares she was brutal to say the least.I even recal her locking me up in a store room & I begged to get to the loo she didn't listen so promptly smacked me for having a wee accident as a locked up wee wean may well have done back then or anytime today too.

i'm sorry but if yous old folks can cast yer minds back tae the mid 70's it wis mr laird that wis the classics teacher .i remember well the day he belted me .i got 87%for my exam results and my mate craig elvin asked me to count his exam paper but i was still counting my own and i have to admit i was a bad boy and swore and was heard by not only the whole class but by mr laird .after promising to belt the 6 of us that sat together i had to admit that it was me ,he then proceeded to humiliate me by telling me i could use that language in the playground but not in his class, telling me this whilst tapping his belt under my chin and also tapping me on the head .and then telling me that i'd done well in the exam .but if i thought i'd got away with it .no chance .3 of the belt and 3 good ones as well.and to rub it in he was a partick thistle fan as well .and linda i 'm sure his mum lived in galloway st or the tenements on springburn rd between cairn st and huntershill st

"I remember the assistant head was a woman who always wore a black gown, with a strap over her shoulder. I got six of the belt from her for 'plunking' school! The other teacher I remember was a Mr Campbell, think he was a French teacher, he also wore a black gown, belted the whole class because he went out and came back in to find that some of the class was misbehaving. I remember an algebra teacher with really bad acne scarring, he was nice enough and a Classical Studies teacher with a monobrow, very hairy, he was a great teacher. Maybe thats the Mr Crawford you have mentioned? The worst punishment he dished out was sending you out the class to stand in the hall. There was also a male science teacher with a twisted hand, I remember that the boys and girls got separated for sex education, which he took. Our 'sex' education mainly consisted of learning about stamens and pistils in flowers, very useful! Lol. I went to Colston in 72/73."
THAT SCIENCE TEACHER WAS MR MILLS AND HE COULD STILL GIVE THE BELT AS GOOD AS ANYONE AND JOAN SEX EDUCATION WAS SECTION 6 DO YOU REMEMBER THAT

ahm killing masell here John LOL yeev managed tae get 2 apologys oota me in a row that is a goal my own husband hasn't even achieved yet LOL, so I humbly apologies yet again noo that ye mentioned it, Mr Laird was indeed the Modern studies & classical studies teachers but I do recall that Mr Crawford had a simular look of the Billy connolly look & they were both mates I think Crawford taught either history or English in A Block,Mind ye, I won't want to be quoted oan this [ahm awe oota apologys so this is a guess ok John pal heheheLOL] there were two Mr Crawfords in our school at the time if my memory is serving correctly. I also recall Mr Laird never belted any girls in my class only th eboys,John ye wur a naughty boy werent ya! hehehe
