I've just been tidying out the photo gallery as everytime a photo is uploaded in one of the sections it also creates a copy in the gallery as well. I've made sure photos I've deleted are already in sections but have also moved some to the relevent sections, so although no longer in the gallery they ARE still on the site. There is a facility in the photo gallery to create albums, this might be useful for some folk but where th photo is relevent to old Springburn then photos are best uploaded to sections on the Nav Bar. Some thoughts - It's great to see the efforts being made to pinpoint the location of the sledgers in this great photo. The last two taken looking down into Bishopbriggs. However, focusing on the background of the original photo, it shows heavy industry and a cityscape at the bottom of the hill. Assuming that this is actually Glasgow in the background, which I believe it is, then this suggests the photo was taken looking south-west from a high vantage point, rather than looking north-west (no city would be in the background). If the sledgers' photo was taken from a Springburn vantage point (highest location in Glasgow), then how can we see such dense structures to the right of the picture - which should be wide open countryside - if it was taken from near Springburn Park? Bishopbriggs would not show, and even if it did, it still has not that type of building density.
One of my two Springburn homes was at 77 Edgefauld Road, and we looked down on Glasgow from close to the supposed location of the sledgers' hill. The cityscape in the background is too close - I think. Is that Ruchill Hospital and Glasgow University in the cityscape foreground? If so, they seem nearer than they should be if the photo was taken from Springburn. Most of these sledgers are well-dressed adults, and very few children. Not typical dress of Springburnians in my time (1940's) or earlier. Just some thoughts.......

I mainly remember the shops along Petershill Road, as I was too young to be allowed to wander about. The shops were very handy, located just across the road from Bedlay Street. There was a sweet/cigarette shop, next came a cobblers, there was a lovely wee drapers shop and then a fruit and veg shop owned by the Cameron family. I specifically remember this name as my uncle was engaged to the owners daughter. They also sold sweets and because of the connection this is where my brothers and I got our 'play-piece' from. There was also a bakers shop and no doubt others whom I just can't recall at all. At the corner of Petershill Road and Springburn Road there was a big ice-cream parlour called Vics. I believe you could sit in or take-away. I also remember Woolworths in Springburn Road, the Co-op, McNee's Chemist and will post some more when I ask my parents to refresh my memory.

This was a farm that existed in Springburn when I was young,it was at the top of Fernbank street,,and when I lived in Elmvale street in 1938 the farm had been deserted,I have thought of it quite a lot and who Hopkins was,it must have been the last farm to exist in Sprinburn, and it was well known back then, but like a lot of old Springburn, it has passed by,or we have

I had heaps of neighbours whom worked in the caley namely a mr Joe Quayle & his son Jamie Quayle, some one called Doc think it was Brian dcherty was his real name then there was the McFaddens & frews all played a part of working in or around caley areas & railways.I recall the huge open day at the caley had to be in the 70s where there were wonderful displays of old antique trains etc it was amazing to see the old coaches done up all fancy in quilted buttoned seating red velvet fine woods used etc think they did that perhaps before they closed a major section of it. wow! seems like it was a dreadful loss to Springburn realy does anyone else recall the train show open day?

I recall there were two streets which brought you off springburn rd into Galloway streets tenement housing, one was called cairn street where the police & telephone boxes stood next to the police cadet houses[1 close of police cadets in training got to live their ] situated on springburn rd next to a cooperative store which is now a plumbing company I believe?at the bottom of the hill entrance facing the old 60s -70s Esso garage & junk caryard placed on springburn rd ,I mean there at the end where the plots & dummy railways were side by side. the other street was called Huntershill street which had Harkins newspaper shop takin up the corner of the bottom of that hill entrance where one could await a 45 bus also diagonaly across from there was a dairy called Jacky Wilsons on that huntershill street[cobbled then] both of these streets were entry points into Galloway st coming off springburns very very long main rd.
