Again it's me with my wee blister who I am told now did not like her frock
I lost so much weight in the last week my dress stood alone held up by the lining . dressmaker thought the neckline was too low so stuck a cake favour to cover my indecency there was also a hair in the hem and apart from the material being NOT the one had chosen It was the style of my choice. Someone adjusted my veil and pulled the thing almost off my head .Had a row with the car driver on the way and then he refused to take us to the photographers that was until the minister came out and they recognised each other (chaplain to Bar L ) Guests bus got lost and landed out kelvingrove way. Small band finished up as a 25piece as people just kept arriving with Caberet ......we had to miss the fun to catch a train Elinor 1960

what a thrill when my friend sent me this link to Springburn. Ive only found it so will have to look out some photos. Thier ere six of us [5 girls and one boy Jim] aand my mum and dad. Dad workrd in cowlairs and so did I and my husband. hugh shields [he was not my husband at that time]. my mother died very young in 1950 so big changes took place in the family. I came to Australia in 1956.followed by my dad and brother jim[rip] and youngest sister Edna.MAY[rip] THE ELDEST WENT TO america and joan and Rena stayed in Springburn, They both still live in Glasgow,and Im just back after one of my frequent holidays to my homeland.if anyone recognises us PLEASE get in touch.pat.shields@hotmail.com thank you

Hi All,
I'm new to this site and joined because my Grandad & Great Grandparents lived in Wellfield Street, Springburn. Although they're all long gone, I wondered if anyone possibly had ancestors who may possibly have passed down any stories about the Devlin family. It's probably a long shot but I thought it worth a try. They moved away in 1919, seemingly after the death of a new baby (James). They might possibly stand out because my Great Grandad, William Robison Devlin, disappeared without trace around that time. Great Grandma was Susan (nee Currie), the kids were Maud, Sadie & William. The family also ran R & D Devlin Funeral Undertakers on Castle Street until the 1930s, if that rings any bells with anyone. Many thanks, Nicky. |
