When the dwindling congregation of the Tron (around Trongate-Argyle St.) was transferred to Balornock, we met in a wee red hut, next door to St. Roche's R.C. school almost. (Is it still there? It wasn't as good looking a school as Balornock) Later, a more substantial church hall was built...one end for services and the other with a stage (though to be truthful I do not remember that at all, but it was there when I visited in the 2000). The firest minister was Mr. Wylie, with three children, Malcolm, and Kathleen, but I can't recall the oldest son's name. Wonderful family. Mr. Wylie died of cancer and was succeeded by Mr. Morrison, who had a couple of children. He, too, died of cancer. He was followed by "Wee Willie" - William Bowie. He married Marge (?). He must have missed her after she went to Canada, and proposed to her through her friend still in Balornock! How romantic!

Mr. Stirling was tubby, not too short, and had more ginger hair when I was young when I lived in Barmulloch Rd. He always wore high-water pants!!! George and Jeannette inherited his ginger hair, Margaret and Alex's were less gingery and more blondish like Mrs. Stirling's gingery-blonde hair.

Yes, George Hamilton was the organist, and we used to be friendly with his offsrping. He and some other fellow came to the Tron from some, shall we say, evangelical persuasion, The other fellow left when Mr. Wyllie didn't like him standing on top of a table conducting all the weans to sing more evangelical "songs." All this before your time.

Maybe I'm looking at things through rose-coloured specs, but my memories are so positive of those years and my participation in Balornock Tron as a S.S. teacher and member of the choir. I should have stayed where I was instead of thinking the grass would be greener on the other side of the street.
