Simzan Model Boats 2 Nov 19 2009, 12:20 AM EST by babybev

Left Springburn in 1959 when I was 4 for Scotstoun. Maintained link with Springburn via the Model Boat club in the park until the early eighties ( as well as going to see the Peasy if not at a Jags match). Now living in Chippenham, Wiltshire and really saddened by the photies of the hothouse and posts about the park being neglected. Looks as if you canny walk aw roond the boating pond any mair. The boat club met every Sunday from 9.30ish till 1 and the paddle boats wurnae open till we finished. For some of the monthly competitions we had to take the paddle boats out all together. Once a year in August we had an open competition when modellers from all over (particularly North East England) used to visit. Anyone else remember the boats or were a member of the club at any point?

I have just had a look at the lovely photos of Springburn Park and it brought back great memories of when I would go there with my pals in the summer. We usually went on the boats, had a shot on the swings, played putting, tried playing tennis but was never very good at it, went into the hot house and into the Rockery. I was there again this summer with my grandson and everything just seemed so bare. A lady said to us not to go near the boating pond as there was usually men sitting drinking beer there and the dogs that they had with them were quite fierce and this was at 11.30 in the morning. Such a change from the 1950's.

Harrymc STUDY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SPRINGBURN PARK 14 Oct 25 2009, 9:38 AM EDT by mag27
Thread started: Jan 21 2009, 6:18 PM EST  Watch
Back in November 2008 Kenboy advised that there was a piece in the Evening Times about a public meeting to get the views of local residents on the future "development" of Springburn Park".Since then there does not appear to have been any progress reports. The Times have failed to reply to requests for an update .So,being mindful of previous "development "in Springburn, the consequent devastation and fearful that our park would be turned into a building site, contact was made with tha Organ Grinder rather than the Monkey.A copy of the reply is posted in the Gallery for anyone who might be interested.as we would not wish to see such an asset destroyed.
