I can only dimly remember this as a sweet shop. Correct me if I am wrong, but it was a pretty rough area by the time the off-licence was there. My brother in law is from a wee place outside Edinburgh, as well as having pretensions. Unbeknowest to us until afterwards, he had went to that off-licence and asked the guy behind the counter if he could recommend a nice wine. He was laughed out the store, all they sold was bucky and Elderado.

Yep. I think you are right about it being a hairdresser. My father moved back to Springburn, a very changed place since I lived there as a youngster. Shocking the way the powers that be decimated what was once, in essence, a small town with plenty of amenities. It was starting to go downhill when I lived there back in the 70s, although I can see that it once was a thriving, bustling community.
