For gretanow....another view of that hole....note the joker with an orange
cone on his head..another source has confirmed that this band was from the Orange hall
which is still standing where the old Millerbank Street once was.
| Orange walk circa 1976. Apologies for any offence these pics may cause, but what is of vital interest is the background shops. You can already see the beginning of the end of Springburn Road as we knew it. Note the begining of the destruction of shops with Curley's just half in view. |

Absolutely brilliant photo of the ladies of Adamswell Street. A formidable force and the faces of hard working women. Reminded me so much of how my mother looked liked a few years earlier. And the wee girl on the trike, I always wanted a trike with the wee sort of breadbin on the back, but it wasn't to be afforded. My sister and I had one roller skate between us,lol.

I remember those railings well, although when i lived and played there the back was enclosed with a brick wall that linked round from Jean Donnely's house to the wash house. It gave you a start when you were climbing over into the works. Those railings were only installed after the war, before that the fence in gourlay street was made from railway sleepers. There was also a brick dyke you had to climb over to get to the "gerds" as we knew it.
your big sister may remember me as I had a three wheeled "Bond Mini-car" that I parked outside the close around about 1962/63, just befor I left in 1963. Great memories Steve, Arch S. |
