| Orange walk circa 1976. Apologies for any offence these pics may cause, but what is of vital interest is the background shops. You can already see the beginning of the end of Springburn Road as we knew it. Note the begining of the destruction of shops with Curley's just half in view. |

Hi, apart from Margaret Kyle does anyone know the names of the other shop workers in the Co-op doorway photo? It looks like the entrance to the grocery shop but the two men at right look a bit too smart with their white aprons to be grocers. I suspect one might be my grandfather who was a tailor and I believe he worked at the Co-op with his uncle, Robert Habbick. Unfortunately my GF disappeared off the family radar in the thirties and my dad was so young at the time he barely remembers him. Would love to know if I'm on the right track. Thanks, Steve Dunn.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and have posted a similar thread on the 'Weddings' page, but now think it might be more relevant to this page. Looking at the photo of the Co-op shop, 1917, I realised that my Great Grandparents probably used this shop. I'm not sure how long they lived in Springburn, but my Grandad William Devlin was born in Wellfield Street in 1917. His sisters were Maud and Sarah (Sadie). It seems the family left for Manchester c,1919/1920, following the death of the yougest baby, James, in 1919. Great Grandad, William Robison Devlin is said to have disappeared around this time, we believe, from Springburn, leaving Maud, Sadie, William (Bill), and wife Susan behind. This 'mystery' has been bugging us all for quite some time, so if anyone has any info that may have been passed down through the generations about this family, it would be gratefully received. Thanks, Nicky xx
