Miss Golberg was my teacher prior to me being taught by Miss Douglas. Miss Goldberg played the piano and organised the school nativity, choir, recorder classes, recitals etc. I remember she was also a member of the chorus of an opera company. It was through her that I attended performances of Carmen and La Boheme. I love telling people I have been to the opera, very upper-class. I don't normally mention I was in primary school at the time. Did anyway else witness her perform on stage? Certainly, it was unusual for working class children or adults to patronise opera in those days.
