Does anyone recognise themselves? I am the wee one in the front row. I won a cake!
Doesn't the manager look swish? Posted by JMLYNCH1.

A great pic and thanks for giving us a tantalising glimpse into the old long lost cinema. Steve

And from the other side... in it's original glory.
Below: the same shot but wider. in Colour. The long shadow of Cowlairs church covers the road.
I used to hop over to Kennedy's in the early 70s
from the school as he used to sell us gingerbread slices which were brilliant.
Another example of continuity in Springburn's shops.

This picture theatre was almost at the end of my street (Adamswell Street) My grannie and I used to go at least once a week and always had a bag of sweeties handy. We did see quite a lot of horror movies there I do remember the man with the club foot in some of them, he scared me quite a lot but I still went to watch him, coming home at night in the dark I used to walk at the very outside of the pavement for fear some one (with a club foot) would come out to scare me and I used to listen intently for any movement or sound. Oh! they were the days of my youth and I do remember them.

Superb photos of the old cinemas. The main one I went to was the Wellfield (the Astor) as it was just a nip through the back courts from me. Saturday matinee was always noisy with all us bairns stamping our feet waiting for the film to start. Think it was either 3d or 6d to get in. The spare ground on both sides of the cinema was used for sledging in the winter..I've still got the scars on my knees to prove it ! I occasionally got to go to The Princes for the ABC Minors, never did get up on the stage for my birthday. The Kinema (Coffin or Fleapit) very rarely went there but I do seem to remember a film about a murderer with a club foot who killed his victims and left a card with a spider on it , around 1952 ish.
