I used to hop over to Kennedy's in the early 70s
from the school as he used to sell us gingerbread slices which were brilliant.
Another example of continuity in Springburn's shops.
Better quality Scan of the Kinema.

Superb photos of the old cinemas. The main one I went to was the Wellfield (the Astor) as it was just a nip through the back courts from me. Saturday matinee was always noisy with all us bairns stamping our feet waiting for the film to start. Think it was either 3d or 6d to get in. The spare ground on both sides of the cinema was used for sledging in the winter..I've still got the scars on my knees to prove it ! I occasionally got to go to The Princes for the ABC Minors, never did get up on the stage for my birthday. The Kinema (Coffin or Fleapit) very rarely went there but I do seem to remember a film about a murderer with a club foot who killed his victims and left a card with a spider on it , around 1952 ish.

I was born in Bishopbriggs in 1951,but raised in Milton, my wee Granny lived in Gourlay Street right opposite the Pictures, next to a shop called Hoeys,I think that's how it's spelt, but I'm not sure, I loved going to see her and went as often as I could,I can still see her with her hair combed back in a bun,the kettle was always on a wee peep on the old gas stove and in winter time she'd have a pot of stew on the go, or tatties and mince she always wore a wee pinny too, does anyone remember the picture house there? The Saturday morning club?
