This occurred the year after I left Glasgow,1963,
otherwise I might well have been on this bus.

STURMEY LATE NIGHT BUSES 11 Nov 5 2008, 8:23 AM EST by Harrymc

Can anyone remember the late night buses that used to leave from George Square in the early hours of the morning? I remember going to the dancing at the Barrowland and walking from the Gallowgate up to the Square to catch the bus home. I think the buses ran every hour on the half hour and the fare was one-and-nine pence. A lot of money way back in 1965. I used to catch the bus that took me to Balornock. I think it went along George Street, Duke Street, up on to Alexandra Parade. I can't remember the route after that. Am I right in thinking that it went through Barmulloch? My memory is playing tricks on me. I do remember that the bus went along Wallacewell Road and I got off at the bottom of Northgate Road. I had to walk up the road as I lived at the very top near to the NO. 8 bus terminus. My how times have changed. I didn't think anything of walking up that road on my own in the very early hours of the morning. Nowadays, I wouldn't even think of letting any of my kids walk home (even on a busy street) in the early hours of the morning. Life was so much simpler then, but I beg the question - were we really any safer? or do we just remember the good bits and forget about the nasty things that happened? MARGARET STURMEY.

I was going to play my first works golf match at Pollock Golf Club. Jumped on the 45 at McNees at placed my little tartan golf bag with assorted clubs under the stair ( as you did in the 50's) and went upto the top deck. As the bus swung round the bend approaching Petershill road I heard an almighty clatter. Fearing for my precious clubs I rushed down the stair and threw myself off the bus, ran back and picked up a length of COPPER PIPE. Fortunatetly the bus had stopped at the next stop and I was able to chase it and just managed to jump on to be greeted by a wee plumber saying " I widnae have bothered son, I've still gote another bit".
I won the golf match.
