Hi Everybody. Just some basic information here to get everyone started.
First of all this a WIKI site. This means it is self editing.
Before attempting to post text you are strongly advised to read the HELP pages. It can be tricky at the begining, but you need to take the time and you will get the workings. You will find the helplink at the home page BOTTOM LEFT.
If you post a response to a forum thread, then decide you want to change something, the only way to modify it is to copy your reply, then delete your reply, open afresh response, paste the old text back in, make changes and save. I know it sounds fussy, but in truth it takes no time at all.
Basically, there are two parts to the site. Pages and forums. Pages contain the historical information/ pictures and text and can be found in the navigation panel. Forums relevant to the topic can be found at the bottom of each page. Photos are added every other day so KEEP CHECKING!
New topics can be added easily by going to page toolbox and clicking add new page. You will find this at the right side of this page under page toolbox.
You then click the white Easy Edit button above left of this panel.
A toolbox appears and a white text panel appears. You then type in or paste your story here.
Some people are getting confused and opening up a forum topic instead of putting information onto the page as I have described. The point of the forum is to expand the subject. For example:
Say I want to add a photo and text to 'The Churches' chapter.
I go to the chapter.
Click easy edit.
Upload picture. If the pic appears too large to fit you will notice two white squares in the panel. This is to make it bigger or smaller. Click the box with one horizontal line to reduce the size.
To add text put the curser in the box and away you go. If you want to move blocks of text around, HIGHLIGHT IT THEN DRAG.
Make sure you click the SAVE button to complete the addition.
If I then wanted to comment on what you had just posted. I would open a new forum AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SAME PAGE.
This means that each page will have a relevant forum at the bottom of it and make the site much easier to read. You can still start a forum on any topic you like without adding page, but where a topic page exists put your forum there.
Can i just explain historical/biographies are best posted directly on the page rather than as a forum. You will find if you post it as a forum you will be restricted to how many words you can place on the page.
What you are best doing is 'start a new page' but then instead of starting a new thread instead click the white easy edit button to your left..and a toolbox will appear with a blank page; this lets you type in as much as you want and you can format it to. You.. can always modify it yourself later. You cannot modify a thread post. You can only delete it.
Hope this helps
Steve
