Hello, my name is WILLIE DAVIDSON

Hi guys
Please help. I am trying to trace who lived at 11 hillkirk street in 1946. I think it may have been Agnes Mcallister or Agnes Miller. Can any one help please. Thank you so much

Hi Willie,
My father worked at N B Loco all his working life. He joined the firm at the age of 14 (approx 1921) and was the very last person to be employed by them. In fact when N B Loco closed down, there was a big article in the Evening Times and there was a photo of my dad on the front page. When he started there he was employed as a belt man, (machines were driven by belts in those days!!!) but eventually he was just a watchman. The photo in the paper shows him lighting a cigarette. My father had never smoked a cigarette in his life and he looked so awkward in the picture with the ciggie hanging from his mouth. I'd love to get a copy of that picture, but haven't had much success up to now. Perhaps some of your readers might recognise his name - JOHN DALZIEL. When the works eventually closed, my dad was fortunate to get a position as a storeman at the college in Flemington Street. He worked there until he retired in 1972. Unfortunately both he and my mother are no longer with us, but they both lived and worked in Springburn for many years before moving to Balornock where I was brought up. I attended Colston and when I look at your site I don't recognise the area any more. Perhaps because I have lived in England for the last 30+ years.and haven't seen the changes first hand. Keep up the good work and I'll keep on looking at the site from time to time.
Regards, Margaret Sturmey (nee DALZIEL)
