I have just returned from Glasgow and spent an hour in the Springburn Shopping Centre just north of Springburn Station I was extremely disappointed at the demise of our beloved Springburn Rd. all the lovely shops have gone and there was a feeling of deprivation and poverty.
I did not get an opportunity to go to Crichton/Gourlay St. as I was going to my nephews place in Waterside Kirkie the Taxi Driver who took there was most derogaroty about the people who lived in Springburn now.

Aye yer dead right Lilian.I was there last month an' that shopping centre is a disgrace.The place looked dark and unwelcoming an' what is increasingly becoming a part of the urban landscape a passel o' people with parked prams cluttering up the forecourt while they have a smoke and across the road ootsde Thomsons the lager looneys daein' the same.The whole scene is dispiriting if not intimidating.When ye think o' how it used to be???
Later on I was standing by what used to be Wellfield Street trying to create in my mind's eye exactly where I was relative to how it used to be when a guy pulled up in a car an' asked me if I knew where the new Petershill Leisure centre was.I explained that it wis near enough 50 years since I had been in Springburn but I thought he needed to turn roon and get back towards Petershill Road.I also added that I had heard it wis in Adamswell Street which was also back the way he had come.He wis'nae havin' it as he had looked on the map an' it wisnae there but was somewhere up ahead.I left him to it an' he drove off up the Balgray.Next day I decided to go an' see for ma'sel where the Peasie wis an I was quite pleased to find I wis right.
The thought occurred to me that the Planners have created a ghetto to make a fast road to Kirkie an' a lot o' true Springburnians are probably,like ma brother living oot there.
At least the guy who wanted the directions probably goat them frae sumbuddy frae Springburn when he got tae Kirkie.lol Unless he asked aboot in Bishopbriggs!!
