Please add any details you may wish to share . This can be as brief or as long as you wish and it could help identify old Springburn classmates. My family lived at 42 Wellfield St in Springburn. There were our parents Robert & Nancy - my older brother Robert, myself Anne - my younger sister Norma. We - the children- all attended Albert Primary then went on to Albert Secondary. We attended sunday school at the Salvation Army in our street although the whole family were members of Ferguson Memorial Church in Palermo St. Our parents were married there and we were christened there as well as our own children. My brother served as apprentice fitter in Cowlairs before joining the RAF. I now live close to Springburn's sister railway area of Wolverton in Bucks where the workers didn't have tenements to live in but terraced houses. Unfortunately the railway works here has suffered the same fate as in Springburn.

I remember being the proud owner of a lovely scrap book were we use to get together and swap scraps. Just wondered with todays technology if the kids still have these. I come across some paper dress up dolls on the net its a game kids can play on the net and it reminded me of my own paper dress up dolls when I was young as well as scrap swapping. Can anyone remember words to old song we sany when playing ball agaist the wall or skipping ropes my memory it not what I would like it to be in all things.

In later life I became a game dealer and I learned the skills of dealing on the streets of Springburn. I swaped comics and scraps particularly pre war scraps and yankee comics. I had a large collection when I left to go to Easterhouse and I gave them to my pals because I was moving to the land of milk and honey with an inside toilet in the house. How wrong I was. Game Dealer is a person who deals in Deer,Rabbits,Pheasants,Ducks,

My name is Ian Thomson and I was born in33 Queenshill Street in 1945. I am one of a family of 8 including mother and father. In age descending brothers are; William, Alex, Ian, Janis, Stuart, Georgette. My mother (Margaret) was a nurse and my father William) worked on the railways. Our last house before a move to Easterhouse was number 27 Queenshill street just next to the Johnstone church where i went to the life boys and the boys brigade. It is with great fondness I remember with great fondness going away on the Sunday School trip with our label and tin mug tied round our necks marching behind the BB band and away on a great adventure to a foreign land. Usually Blantyre the birth place of "David Livingstone I presume". Just after the was in the fifties I remember playing cowboys and Indians withe the other boys in the area who all had shiny cap guns. I had to make do with a real deactivated 38 webley revolver which my mother told me I got it from Sammy McLaren who owned a cobbler shop just round the corner. Still the same today except the guns are not deactivated. My saddest recollection was seeing the men with missing limbs hobbling around on crutches and one old soldier with no legs wearing a chestful of medals begging on Springburn Road. These would be local men who went to the wars and were discarded on their return to fend as best as they could. Springburn people were big hearted and caring My mother and father worked night shift an wee Mrs Harvey from the next close would come in and make us porridge and put us out to School. I went back to see the old place a few years ago and it was so depressing and badly broken very sad I am sure we all want thing to be better than we had but proud working class area of Glasgow has perished and there is not many left to mourn its passing. I now live in Perth as do my son and daughter and my 4 grandsons and they keep me busy and permanently tired!!!!

Hi Juniori - I lived in Wellfield St till 1960 then moved to Charles St. Got married in 1964 moved to Keppochill Rd then Pinkston Dr. Took my daughter to Nan Keeling's dance school so might have known your Mum back then. My brother and his wife lived in a single end on Cowlairs Rd before he joined the RAF. (2nd close round from Clydesdale bank ) He played football for so many teams around the area and I used to go watch him if he played at the 'Peasie'. My best friend lived in Reidhouse St. till about 1962 then moved to Carron Cres. So many of our lives must have crossed at some time or another whilst in 'Good Old Springburn'. Great memories.

Hi Betty. Glad you also remember Mr Telfer of Ferguson Memorial Church. The daffodil Sunday was around Mother's Day so that you could take the flower back to your mum. I always remember that day too - it was a lovely thing to arrange for the children as we couldn't afford to buy anything. I love this Old Springburn Site and I am trying to get other friends and family to get addicted as well as myself. (My Neice and Nephew told me about it) Anne
